In FS9, you can set a certain effect to display at certain times, right down to the second.  I'm wondering if this is at all possible for the BGL files themselves?  Add a "modelParams" somewhere in the XML coding?

I've never tried it, but in theory you might be able to make a part which displays only under certain conditions as defined by the XML, and then make all the other part of your model children of that part.

Linking doesn't work with scenery, as far as I can recall.  IE - no children parts or parent parts.

Gee, I have several linked parts in my FSX scenery object battleships and carriers. For example, I link attachpoints for light effects to a rotating cylinder animated as Ambient  to simulate a rotating beacon.

Cheers, Paul

When I build scenery objects with FSDS, they *have* to be linked in order to show properly, otherwise parts will end up floating in the air or in other odd locations.

Sorry!  I didn't specify: FS9 and Gmax.  I remember trying it a few years ago, but I'm not sure whether it was FS8 or 9, so I'll get back on that.

What XML code would be used to do this?

In FSDS3.0 (not 3.51) we have a few preprocesses for display conditions in scenery - see "Seasonal Textures" example from FSDS help. Check VarTable.txt from FSDS root folder for available variables, I think that time related vars are still working in fs9.

For GMAX, try to search for "conditional display" on Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register forum. Check their download section too, I believe that there are some nice BGL/asm tweaking tools for that.
